What The Hack! is a new Steam game that's free to keep forever
What The Hack! is a short, humorous game that you can keep for free, forever. That's right; there's no temporary discount, nor is this a "free to play" period where you're expected to buy the game once your time is up. You head over to the Steam page, hit the "Add to Library" button, and you can play it for free with no time limits or brief windows.
Six students built this game over the space of four months as part of their Digital Arts & Entertainment third-year group assignment, and while the game isn't very long, it's still really impressive to see what a team of novice devs can achieve in such a small time frame these days. Plus, the game has a lovely layer of humor to it, which is always nice to see in a game.
Here's how the game describes itself:
You play as Boolian, a facility worker whose consciousness is unexpectedly zapped into a computer. Before you can even process what’s happened, a security drone begins checking for malware. With no time to waste, you tap into your newfound hacking abilities, taking control of various machines to escape, like a drone, a robot vacuum, or even a towering logistics crane as you maneuver through the facility. Embark on a thrilling adventure, outsmart the facility's defenses, and uncover creative ways to break free. But be careful—some of the robots you encounter might not be as friendly as they seem!
At the time of writing, What the Hack! has 100% positive reviews. Granted, it only has 13 reviews total, but that's still a solid beginning for a short, free game. Who knows; if the developers get enough positive feedback, they may end up making a fully-fledged title later on down the line. Until then, head over to the What The Hack! Steam page and claim the game for free. And if you want more like that, check out these five games trying to be funny that are actually funny.
